The capacity of power cable plays an important role for the safety of electric networks. The capacity of cables in earth depends on the cable property, the thermal behaviour of soil and the climatic conditions. Soil is a complex three phase medium of solid, water and air. The hydraulic and thermal properties of soil is dictated by the composition and transport of these three phases. This project has the following objectives: (1) laboratory tests on physical, hydraulic and thermal behaviour of soil; (2) numerical simulation of the “cable-soil” system.
