Abstract
Up to 2012 Austria is obliged to reduce about 13% of the greenhouse gas emissions within the scope of the Kyoto protocol. Currently, nevertheless, Austria misses clearly this target, and there is a 27-percent divergence beyond the reference year 1990. The ongoing upvaluation of urban areas by at the same time comprehensive modernisation of the buildings and intelligent integration of renewable energy are able to contribute significantly to possibilities to reduce greenhouse emissions under the level of 1990. The central scientific question is: How can comprehensive concepts for modern city districts based on existing urban and social infrastructures be optimally used as identity-donating vehicles for energy and resource conscious renewal quarters? Concrete answers will be given in SMA-DH that aims at conceptualising innovative energy solutions in a dedicated urban area. The main focuses of this scientific study are:The elaboration of a comprehensive concept based 5 refurbishment variants and 15 scenarios of up-to-date energy services in model city districts and the use of its particular potentials for buildings in Wilhelminian style.Empirically underpinned cost-utility analyses support technology developments for the urban mass market.Innovative SMA-DH – business model able to convert today quarters into environmental benign respectively climate-neutral city districts supplied extensively with district heating.Strategies for marketing and communicating towards specific target groups in order to spread ambitious energy solutions for a social living in large-volume multi-storey buildings and to work in modern commercial buildings and office buildings
