Integrated water safety concepts
Abstract
The basis for a safe water supply is the adequate implementation of the standards and guidelines (state of the art) for risk management to protect drinking water resources. This study contributes to closing the gap between requirements arising from these standards and guidelines and their practical implementation by water utilities. Particular attention will be given to the changing conditions (legal framework, environmental conditions). The investigations will be carried out in close collaboration with the Austrian Association for Gas and Water (ÖVGW) and aim at identifying (1) safety concepts for the protection of drinking water resources which are currently in use in Austria, (2) their fields of application and potentially existing gaps and (3) needs for action in implementation of security concepts, standardization activities, research and education.
