Alpine Carpathian Corridor Extension
Abstract
This project is following up the original Alpine Carpathian Corridor Basic and Centrope with the aim to establish and ensure a wildlife corridor for big mammals between the Alps and the Carpathians. These former projects indicate a lack of connectivity in the eastern part of the original project area on Slovakian territory in the direction of Trencin which was not implied in the study area. Activities in the last years with intensification of agriculture and increasing landuse for settlement area and commerce in combination with the highway D1 results in an urge for consequences to safeguard the corridor and the connection to the core area of the Carpathians. The project partners remain the same as in the ACC Basic and Centrope, also the same method will be applied as for ACC Basic and Centrope, which is based on remote sensing and a GIS model of permeability and connectivity for the purpose of wildlife migration.
