Book project: Celts in Eastern Austria – Archaeobotanical Contributions
Abstract
The project aims at a comprehenisve review on the Latène-period in eastern Austria, with reference to the international state of knowledge in Latène research and special consideration of recent results from neighbouring countries, notably southern Germany, Bohemia, Moravia, Slovakia and Hungary. The archaeobotanical contributions will focus both on the landscape ecology of Eastern Austria during the Latène period and on the subsistence strategies of the Celtic population in this region. Special attention will be paid to arable farming, pasturing, meadow management and the exploitation of forests. The project will compile results from a variety of studies and integrate them into a comprehensive picture of every day-life at the eastern rim of the Celtic world.
