Research Focus
My focus of research is environmental history, specifically the history of changes in the environment in the period between the Middle Ages and the 20th century in Central and Southeastern Europe. I am interested in the changes in the relationship between society and the environment caused by the impact of the agrarian and industrial revolution, new geographical discoveries and the entry of new plant and animal cultures (the so-called Columbian exchange) and those caused by the transition from a solar energy regime to a fossil one.
My previous research works related to the history of forests and the history of forest resource utilization and the development of forestry in the 18th and 19th centuries in the area. The forest is an interesting research topic for me, because through changes in the relationship and perspective towards forests, we can observe changes in society, monitor the developments, impacts and consequences of new economic ideas and industrial technologies, as well as monitor the development of other economic sectors, such as farming, livestock, mining , heavy industry and the energy sector.
