Forschungsschwerpunkt
Alfred Strauss’ research primarily focuses on Structural Mechanics and Reliability Analysis of Structures, including bridges, tunnels, protective structures, and other civil engineering works. A major emphasis is on Lifecycle-Oriented Planning, Maintenance, and Sustainability of Infrastructure, which addresses not only design but also service life, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization over the entire lifecycle. He also specializes in Probabilistic Methods, Reliability Assessment, Structural Monitoring, and Lifetime-Optimized Design, developing approaches to minimize structural damage while maximizing service life. His work further investigates the interaction of structures with natural hazards, including and extreme events, as well as soil-structure interactions that influence the performance of foundations and structural systems. Additionally, he studies the impact of climate change on infrastructure and structures, integrating these effects into design, maintenance, and lifecycle optimization. Finally, he applies modern numerical and analytical methods to analyze the performance and service life of both existing and new structures under complex environmental and operational conditions.
