Research Focus
My research focuses on combining field experimentation with process-based modelling (SIMPLACE modelling framework, DSSAT) to study cropping systems genotype × management × environment interactions for the improved delivery of ecosystem services (food provision, soil conservation and climate mitigation) and improved resource use. Specific topics include: + Evaluating diversified cropping systems (e.g. patch cropping, crop rotations, and intercropping), for improved resource-use efficiency, and system productivity. + The influence of within-field heterogeneity crop performance, and improving site-specific management (crop allocation, nutrient and residue management), by using high-resolution soil (electromagnetic induction derived maps) and crop data to support spatially optimized decisions. + Linking process-based models with functional crop traits to assess genotype plasticity and crop productivity across environments. + Exploring climate-change impacts and adaptation strategies for cereal production and regional and global scale. + Teaching and developing lectures on cropping systems, climate-risk modelling, and climate change.
