 Abstract:
 Lifecycle assessment of infrastructure systems is recently becoming important in the sustainable development of infrastructure systems. Considering economic aspects, lifecycle cost analysis is an essential tool for decision making process from the planning to replacement or demolition stage of structures. In the lifecycle cost analysis besides, considering planning, design, construction and maintenance costs it is essential to incorporate user cost, societal and environmental costs. Lifetime costs of engineering structures are identified giving special emphasis on concrete bridge. The target of this thesis is description of deterministic and probabilistic lifecycle cost models. The models are listed according to the number of cost factors and their degree of complexity. To have an overview of cost estimation of different countries, data on lifecycle cost of concrete bridges from Austria and some other countries are investigated and summarized. Furthermore different lifecycle cost analysis software are tested and verified. In particular, three models are applied to compute the lifecycle cost of three concrete bridges in Austria. In order to get a comparison to the theoretical models deterministic lifecycle costs of the bridges are calculated by applying software LZKB developed by OEVBB. In particular, uncertainy in inputs for the lifecycle cost models are included by a probabilistic lifecycle costs FReET (Novak et al). The probabilistic results are compared with the results of deterministic lifecycle cost models. In addition a lifecycle cost sensitivity analysis are done by software FReET. Furthermore, recommendations are given on possibel methods to minimize lifecycle cost of bridges based on optimum maintenance and replacement strategies. For further development of probabilistic lifecycle cost analysis in software FReET all the described cost models are written in MATLAB.
