Based on the problem of silvicultural planning in uneven-aged forest, and a pending conversion respectively, this thesis shows how to use silvicultural monitoring plots in combination with single tree models for silvicultural planning and decision making as well as in forest didactics. German-language simulators have been compared and usability tested. Specific examples have been used to test these programms in practice. Literature studies and field tests show that Prognaus is especially suitable for analysis, simulation and variant studies for this thesis. This is due to parametrization with data from the Austrian forest inventory and the comparatively good documentation. For the monitoring plots, treatment variants and target values have been developed. Aiming to reach these defined goals, an iterative planning for each plot has been done. Results show clearly, that too rigid criteria (eg. h/d-value < 80), for the selection of future crop- or competition trees, are not applicable. That is mainly because of the very different initial situations. Thinning based on stem-distribution curves is not suitable for conversions from even to uneven aged stands. For the use of Prognaus in silvicultural planning in uneven aged forests, suitable thinning-algorithms would be desirable. For monetary evaluations the possibility of assortments would be essential.
