- Abstract:
- Scientific evidence shows that climate change is progressing and it will continue over the next decades. Warmer summers, but also to more frequent extreme weather events (heat episodes) are to be expected. It is therefore necessary to adapt buildings to these situations. This master thesis describes which passive measures in the building sector are possible, ie measures without active coooling devices, to protect rooms from overheating. For that purpose, results from climate models for Vienna City were analyzed and the increasing number of cooling degree days was compared to a southern city, Milano, whose present temperature level in summer will correspond to the future level of Vienna. Subsequently, the building data (period of construction, building materials, U-value of the building envelope) of the two selected cities were collected and compared. Based on this comparison, an attempt was made to investigate the implementation of active measures, ie air conditioners in buildings, to estimating future sales of units in Vienna City. This was achieved with the help of a diffusion curve of the number of air conditioners in Vienna.
