Soil compaction of arable land is a problem for modern agriculture, as increasing intensification means that larger, more efficient and also heavier machines are being used, which in some cases compact the soil to a very high degree. This is especially the case when the land is driven over under the wrong weather conditions or with unsuitable tires or tire pressure. This master thesis now deals with the question of how soil compaction and soil loosening affect yield, yield structure, nitrogen contents and nitrogen yields of winter barley. For this purpose, a trial with three compaction scenarios (low, medium, high) was set up in Groß-Enzersdorf (eastern Austria). Soil loosening was performed orthogonally to compaction. There were six loosening intensities: no tillage, cultivator 10 cm, cultivator 15 cm, cultivator 20 cm, cultivator 30 cm, and plow. The results of the penetrologger measurements showed that the penetration resistance at the start of the vegetation period in spring was still influenced by the compaction and loosening variants performed in the previous spring. However, there was no influence on yield, yield structure (except for grains per spike and TKW), grain N content and N yield.
