Development and evaluation of mobile measuring devices in order to record temperature and stability values within the snow pack. During the winter of 2003/2004 there has been applied research of snow cover temperature and its firmness in Lech/Arlberg, where new transportable, so called mobile analyzers have been developed. With these inventions it seems to be possible, to get data out of the inside of the snow layers without digging a hole into the cover. A goal of this work is to explain and evaluate those inventions as well as traditional measure techniques with the collected data from Lech. The explanations of this work can also be seen as a guidance of snow measurements in general. After a definition of all the goals of this work, there is an accurately described explanation of all the researches and techniques done in the mountains. Then I will try to reason, how accurate the equipment worked and sum up the pros and cons of every single measurement instrument. Further more it was tried to get current snow hardness classes out of these solidity measures, taken in different snow depths, on the bases of own calculation methods. This is based on practical experiences and also on analyses of correlating measurements as well as on chosen datasets. It seems that there was a very good way developed, to get the temperature distributions, that is going from the soil to the surface, without knowing the existing circumstances in the snow cover. Finally there are going to be conclusions about all the experience in practical snow measurements as well as a forecast of all sorts of suggestions. Last but not least, I do not want those new inventions in conjunction with mobile snow cover analyzers to be buried in oblivion, in fact I hope, they will enhance.
