Abstract:
GPS – supported precision guidance systems (steering guidance/ assisted steering system/ automatic steering system) on tractors are increasingly utilized in agricultural practice for reasons of improved comfort, savings in resources and working time. The aim of this study was to examine the working precision, saving in resources and working time of steering guidance/ assisted steering system/ automatic steering system with two trials. The study was conducted in the Enns area in Upper Austria with a GPS guided precision system of the brand John Deere (Parallel Tracking/ AutoTrac Universal/ AutoTrac). The first trial was conducted with a tractor (261 KW) equipped with an automatic steering system and a 5 meter wide compact disc harrow on three plots of 3,186 hectares size for comparison. The plots were harrowed once without GPS, once with steering guidance and once with automatic steering system. The working time reduction was 13,4 % with steering guidance and 8,5 % with automatic steering system. The reduction in fuel consumption was 9,8 % with steering guidance and 9 % with automatic steering system. The overlap with a 5 meter wide device was 6 % without GPS, 1,5 % with steering guidance and 1,3 % with automatic steering system. The second trial was conducted with a tractor (90 KW) equipped with assisted steering system of the brand John Deere (AutoTrac Universal) and two different devices (cultivator 3 meter and pneumatic fertilizer spreader 15 meter) The trial design with three plots per device was identical with the first trial. The measured parameters (fuel consumption, speed, overlap) served as basis for an efficiency calculation of a steering guidance and an assisted steering system, conducted for a plant cultivation farm with an average number of 3,78 field processings per year. The minimum acreage size is 70 hectares for steering guidance and 268 hectares for assisted steering system.
