Abstract:
With Moipu 300ES energy wood felling head one has the opportunity to delimb trees, in order to produce industrial round wood, as well as energy wood. This study evaluates the productivity, the costs, the stand damages and the carbon emissions of the felling head in combination with a forwarder. The productivity did change between harvesting whole trees for energy purpose and industrial round wood. In the first case, the productivity was 3,94 m³/PSH15. By additional harvesting of industrial round wood the productivity rises to 4,05 m³/PSH15, because of a higher load volume. To calculate the productivity under different conditions, a statistical model has been worked out. Harvesting costs were 27,37 €/m³ by harvesting whole trees and, caused by the higher productivity, 26,63 €/m³ by harvesting both industrial round wood and energy wood. By including transfer, chipping and transportation, the costs increase to 44,34 €/m³ or 38,50 €/m³, respectively. The carbon emissions were about 3,3 % of the energy that is bound in the wood.
