Abstract:
This thesis deals with the recovery of vineyard pruning residues for the purpose of recovering heat. It combines existing knowledge found in literature and complements this knowledge with measured data. For the evaluation of the amount of wood produced annually, and the water content thereof, nine samples were collected from nine different vineyards. All samples were taken in vineyards in lower Austria. To show the complex connection between theoretical and practical amount of pruning wood which can be harvested, the thesis also illustrates the basics of the annual pruning, the possible mechanization of pruning and the balance of nutrients and humus of a vineyard. As an illustration, the supply chain of the grapevine, from winter pruning through to the finished fuel wood, will be explained and supplemented, on the basis of examples and important background information. With the aid of the gathered information the expected heating value could be calculated and compared with traditional combustible material. The calculation shows that an average yield of 1342kg pruning wood (15% moisture) per hectare can be recovered. With a caloric value of 4,15kWh/kg, the pruning wood of one hectare features an energy value of 5570kWh.
