Abstract:
The aim of this master thesis was to elaborate the complex investment decision making in the laying hen sector and to investigate the subjective experience of this phase. The required data derived from guided interviews with farmers who have built or rebuilt laying hen coops in the last five years. The analysis was carried out with the qualitative content analysis according to Mayring. In general, the whole family was involved in the process of decision making. Besides economic aspects, the farm succession played a central role in the process. The subjective experience of the construction phase was described as predominantly positive by all interviewees. Pride, joy and support by family members were determined as the main reasons for the positive experience of the construction phase. Various stress factors resulted in a negative remembrance of the coop building phase. Due to the advanced technology and the positive change of the working and living quality, the majority of the interviewees did not regret the investment decisions.
