- Abstract:
- The aim of this master thesis was to analyse the integration of extensive cattle husbandry into an organic crop and wine producing farm in the wine growing region Kremstal in Lower Austria. The economic analysis was performed using linear programming. Beside the modelling the current situation, two scenarios were analysed. The first was to consider how an extensive cattle husbandry production system could be integrated into an organic crop rotation. The second was to compare cattle fattening with other production alternatives like grape production. The results show that in the current situation a gross margin of approximately 24.000 € can be reached. This increases to 26.000 € with the integration of cattle and grape production. The third scenario shows how an increase of crop yields changes the production mix. Within this model a total cross margin of 30.000 € can be reached. In both models cattle is integrated, as long as beef can be sold directly to the consumer. In conclusion, the model shows that the integration of cattle husbandry has a positive impact on the total gross margin of the modelled farm and is an interesting income alternative.
