- Abstract:
- The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and identify the effects of translucent photovoltaic constructions in combination with intensive roof greening. Although both systems are in competition with each other, a growing demand in combining both methods can be reported. In order to determine the impact of translucent photovoltaic constructions on intensive roof greening, a test pergola with planting beds covered by perforated and opaque solar cells was built. In the course of the study 29 perennial plants were investigated to find out how the different solar cell types and the modified light conditions influence the development of the plants.
There were monitorings (visual evaluation and plant measurement) from March to September 2015. Following a data processing program evaluated the gathered results. In order to visualize the results, an evaluation matrix was developed. Furthermore a plant-guide concerning different light-zones on green roofs was created.
The results show, that the actual size of the investigated plants only provides little information about the vitality of the plants. Moreover, it can be said that the growth behaviour of the plants is similar to existing scientific reports found in literature. Summing up the results, it can be concluded that the inspected plants are in general well-suited for roof greening. Further study of the issue and an extended period of research would be of interest, because the perennial cultivation was in its first vegetation period during time of investigation.
