Abstract:
This work’s aim is to integrate a storage in an already operating arable farm in Romania. Deciding determinant for the investment in the construction of a farm-owned storage is trend of prices on the crop markets. Using the example of a real crop farm in Romania one analyzes the liquidity and the profitability of storage alternatives which represent the investment in three different, excluding projects. Focus of the analysis is the long-term liquidity of the business using financial planning and the analysis of profitability using present value method. Because the disposal off the field is not possible, the farmer needs to choose one of the three alternatives, namely a short-term storage and the sales point in summer time (alternative 1), renting a storage depot (2), or a new construction of a depot at a new farm site (3). Based on the data of a vertical comparison of the business of the last three years and adjusted market data of the Matif of the last ten years, fiscal planning of the different alternatives of the future ten years have been calculated. Main result of the comparison of the projects is that the liquidity is not endangered in any of the three alternatives. The alternatives with the possibility of a long storage are able to get better commercialization results in the total period. The renting of a storage depot yields the highest profitability. Considering different interest rates, still the renting options remains the preferred option, which we recommend to choose for investment, following our assumptions.
