- Abstract:
- Recently, much research effort has been expended into creation of enhanced, superior composite materials. Nanocellulose has raised special interest as a reinforcement material due to its extraordinary mechanical performance and the fact that it is derived from renewable ressources. This study aims to create and characterize a nanocellulose reinforced foam, whereas the reinforced matrix is composed of a mixture of urea-formaldehyd adhesive and melamine-formaldehyd adhesive. Applying a foaming agent, this reinforced foam was produced in 27 different variations and characterized in means of flexural, pressure and impact examinations. Results showed that there is a positive, reinforcing effect of the nanocellulose, nonetheless marginal. Further research and improvement in terms of detecting the optimal process parameters and developing more suitable components on the input-side has to be conducted.
