The aim of this master thesis was an analysis of the diet components of the Black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) in an Italian area of occurrence. Contents of crops and gizzards of fifty male Black grouses individuals from the Little Dolomites in northern Italy were examined in a comprehensive study. In total, about one thousand pure fractions were prepared and investigated, the dry weight fractions of which are being discussed. In addition to the detailed work to determine food particles, present in individual crops and gizzards, the comparison with other studies and referring discussions are basic elements of the present work. As a result, a high fraction of various shrub species was dissected. Especially, seeds of Rosa sp. accounted most to total dry weights, which was not the case in previous dietary studies of Black grouse. Ericaceous species, frequently described as the main food in literature, only played a minor role in the present study material.
