The submitted master thesis aims to examine the mobility behaviour of children and teenagers aged 11 to 18 years. Humans develop behaviour and attitudes according to the orientation of individuals and people in their immediate surroundings. This is also applicable for “mobility socialisation”; children and teenagers without consolidated mobility behaviour are therefore an interesting target group for interventions. Few studies are being made on how mobility-related attitudes and decision-making processes, in regard to mobility daily routines of children and teenagers, are influenced by individual perceptions of the social surroundings and behaviour of others. This question is be targeted within this master thesis. Objective of the thesis work is to examine the extent to which social environment influences mobility behaviour with the help of 24 interviews. It is being examined who the most important reference persons for children and teenagers are, and the extent to which their mobility behaviour has an impact on the interviewees. Furthermore, questions are asked on social surroundings, frequency of use of transportation means, reasons for usage of different means of transport, and influences of reference persons. The findings show that social environment influences children and teenagers. Peer groups and associated peer pressure plays a role for the mobility behaviour and selection of transportation means especially of older interviewees. Peers have the highest influence on the leisure time mobility of children and teenagers.
