Due to the topographic situation in rural areas in Austria there is often a need for pumping stations or auxiliary structures, e.g. combined sewer overflows, for the treatment and transportation of wastewater to the sewage treatment plant. According to the Water Right Act 1959 (2018) and the general wastewater ordinance (Allgemeine Abwasseremissionsverordnung, 1996) regular intervals for maintenance and inspection should be fulfilled by the utilities. The European Standard ÖNORM EN 13508-2 “Investigation and assessment of drain and sewer systems outside buildings – Part 2: Visual inspection coding system” provides a uniform condition assessment for pipelines and manholes but not for pumping stations or auxiliary structures. The elaborated catalogues of condition descriptions and coding for the structural, safety-related, mechanical and electrotechnical categories, should make this possible. The ÖNORM EN 13508-2 was the basis for structural and safety-related conditions. Existing condition catalogues were extended and adapted. The national OEWAV Guideline AB 37 Condition assessment of wastewater treatment plants > 50 p.e. ("Überprüfung des Betriebszustandes von Abwasserreinigungsanlagen (>50 EW)“) was the basis for mechanical and electrotechnical condition descriptions. The catalogues of condition descriptions use the coding structure of the European Standard EN 13508-2. The need for operational measures is determined based on the condition classification of manholes from a guideline from Germany ("Arbeitshilfen Abwasser – ISYBAU”) which is widely accepted by practitioners. The catalogues of conditions were implemented in the Software BaSYS Mobile and mSyS.Service which were tested at different pumping stations and auxiliary structures. Documented conditions and determined measures are shown in uniform protocols. Additionally the scanning system for manholes “CleverScan®“ was tested, the results were analysed and compared with the footage of the “Panoramo SI®“.
