Planning tools graphically outline terrain modelling in landscape construction and architecture (e.g. slopes, hills, sinks and lowerings). This master thesis analyses the application of different planning tools in the area of landscape architecture and landscape construction. The aim is to characterize the most adequate tools for the diverse planning stages, e.g. the process of detailing for presentation or realization of a project. On the one hand, the question is pursued in which planning phase (preliminary design, design, detailed planning, execution phase, etc.) which presentation tools are preferably used. On the other hand, their historical development is considered more closely. Especially presentation methods until the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, computer-based programs of the 20th and 21st centuries and their description of the scientific and technological developments. This sets the frame for comparsion with selected project examples and derives findings for possible uses in the present and the future. In archives and libraries historical maps or cartas and plans were researched. Landscape architectural projects served as reference points for the present. Additional an interview with the head of a landscaping architecture office helped to describe today´s different planning methods and tools. The results were evaluated and summarized in a tabular overview of the planning tools of the terrain modelling. This rating table can act as an assistant and reference in choosing a method of modelling terrain modelling.
