- Abstract:
- Job satisfaction is one of the oldest and most popular research areas in the organizational psychology. In the agricultural sector, job satisfaction is a rather new research topic. In the wine sector, general research in human resource management is rare. To contribute to the discussion about human resource management in viticulture, this thesis offers insights in job satisfaction of qualified employees in wineries and cooperatives. The aim of this survey is to find factors influencing job satisfaction of qualified employees in Austrian and German wineries. These identified factors were analysed with regard to the perceived satisfaction or dissatisfaction of the employees. For this purpose 16 qualitative interviews were conducted with employed winemakers, production managers and vineyard managers in Austria and Germany. Interviews and analysis were based on the “grounded theory” approach of Glaser and Strauss. During the process of data collection, initial results were analysed to allow for adjustments in the questionnaire. Finally 20 influencing factors on job satisfaction of employees were found. Employees see problems in reconciling family life and work. Employees complained about physical strains leading to possible changes in job or position. Often negatively valuated aspects of job satisfaction, like remuneration and working time, were accepted because of the personal interest in and passion for the product. The positive image of the sector and the profession contributes to an overall high job satisfaction. In this aspect, the wine sector differs from other agricultural sectors with poorer public images.
