Abstract:
This thesis is dealing with the topic of green tramway tracks, which is increasingly gaining attention in European cities. In order to decrease the high proportion of sealed surfaces and increase the proportion of green surfaces, which is nowadays an important issue to every big city, including Budapest, the capital of Hungary, the thesis aimed for defining a theoretical base for a green-track plan for Budapest. This thesis analysed under which constructional and technical circumstances it is possible to establish green tracks in Budapest. The potential of green tracks as an instrument to increase urban green surfaces - which can be characterised with the green surface intensity - in Budapest was studied. The potential of green tracks to develop connections in the Green Surface Network and in the Green Infrastructure of Budapest was investigated. Based on the information gained from the literature, from expert interviews and from the map analysis, the necessary circumstances of the establishment of green tracks were defined, categorised and evaluated. The potential growth of the green surface intensity was quantified. The 1.0-1.1% potential growth of the green surface in Budapest is considerable, compared to the 2% decrease rate of the green surface intensity between 2005 and 2010 in Budapest. The potential of the green tracks to develop connections in the green systems could not be proven with the used methods and the available information, although the assumed potential was not contradicted.
