Abstract:
This master thesis expands and optimises an existing computer programm dealing with flow simulation within an activated carbon adsorber. This computer programme enables the consideration of draw down of water table caused by side outlets. The Laplace equation is applied with support of the finite differences method. The FILTER programme now permits the calculation of potential line value, stream function value, vectors and flows. Experiments were portrayed through the use of two laboratory models and two additional computer models. The results thereof demonstrated that, in cases in which the boundary conditions for all methods were constructed in the same manner, the results were indeed satisfactory. The simulations could also demonstrate under which air pressure levels a draw down under the outlets and thus an outflow of air would take place. In summary, it can be stated that the FILTER programme enables a very good reproduction of flow conditions within an activated carbon adsorber. Based on the flow calculations an adsorption model for an activated carbon adsorber could be developed.
