Abstract:
Aim of this thesis was to examine the impacts of irrigation on natural resources, namely soil- and water quality and the hydrology with the example of two case study sites in Ethiopia. Field investigations have been done and primary and secondary data were collected to figure out how certain values and data have changed over the years due to irrigation. For that the available resources of soil and water were examined and judged with regard to quality and quantity to determine diverse indicators of influence. Furthermore a method for data collection and a concept for field investigations and laboratory analysis has been elaborated. The most noticeable impacts of irrigation found were changes in the hydrology and a decline of soil qualities in terms of soil structure and nutrient content.
