- Abstract:
- In addition to the assessment of relevant measures (products, processes etc.) concerning their costs and environmental impacts, social impacts and their quantification have become more importance. This diploma thesis explores how social aspects can be included in existing assessment methods and which approaches to quantification and concretion of social aspects exist in literature. It reflects the current state-of-the-art in literature, gives a theoretical overview and analyses specific case studies.
The concept of sustainable development is used throughout this thesis as an adequate approach to establish indicators for measuring, substantiating and quantifying these social aspects. The second part of this thesis describes two concepts that were developed for waste management. Criteria and indicators for evaluating social aspects in waste management are introduced. Approaches to embed social aspects in commonly used assessment methods in waste management - Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) - and assessment concepts - Cost-Benefit-Analysis (CBA), Scoring Model, Social Compatibility Analysis (SCA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) - are discussed.
Fully developed concepts to include social aspects in commonly used assessment methods are at the beginning of development. The exposition presents a comprehensive account of the relevant literature.
