In this thesis benchmarking curves as a further development of the ÖWAV benchmarking method have been developed. These are founded on the data of the wastewater treatment plants succeeding as benchmarks between the years 2004 to 2009. The previous classification to determine the benchmarks should be replaced with defined costs depending on the size of the respective wastewater treatment plant. The analysis is made for the six main operating cost categories of waste water treatment. They were divided in from the inflow load dependent and independent costs. The cost categories which are dependent from the organic load are the energy costs, the material costs and the residue disposal costs. From the organic load independent or rather from the capacity of the waste water treatment plant dependent costs are the personnel costs, the additional costs and the costs through services by third parties. The new developed benchmark curves should give a better estimation of the actual savings potential of the benchmarking participant, as the current comparison with the benchmark of the group.
