It is important to prevent potential hazards to soil and groundwater. In order to minimize the environmental impact of a sewer system, the lead through of a leakage test is necessary. The Austrian Standards include the issues of leakage tests. Nevertheless there is no difference made between the leakage test as quality control of the construction work and the environmental investigation. The leakage test, during full operation of the sewer system, has to be carried out under completely different circumstances than at the end of construction work. Therefore the leakage test for environmental investigation should be configurated more efficiently, especially from an economic point of view. The first part of this thesis describes the technical, the theoretical and the judicial basics of sewer leakage tests. In addition, an image of the momentary legal situation of this topic in Austria and Germany is shown. In the thesis, two different new methods are discussed. One is a new method of the water pressure test and the other is a new accretion of the air pressure test. The second part includes the specifications, the test procedures, the test results and conclusions and their interpretation. In the last part the new methods and the methods of the Austrian Standards (ÖNORM B 2503) are compared in a cost analysis. Four different methods in three different scenarios are discussed.
