The increasing popularity of electric and hybrid cars is the inspiration for this thesis entitled “Acceptance of the e-car in Vienna”. The possibility of being mobile and locally free of emission is an important topic for car manufacturers. The term e-car includes electric cars as well as hybrid cars. The main topics are the development of e-car technology and the opinions of e-cars held by the people of Vienna. The first part is mainly a review of existing literature, the second part is an empirical analysis. The goal is to present recent developments in e-car technology and to observe how these developments affect public opinion. This paper represents the first work focusing on the e-car in greater Vienna. The theoretical part is primarily based on the current literature. The empirical part includes a survey, which is based on different surveys about similar topics, the poll itself and an analysis through SPSS. The results have been given numerically and graphically and as a summary. In aggregate, the respondents reflect the values held by so-called “early adopters”. They show knowledge of the embodied energy of the product itself and of the production of energy in general. As regards the theoretical part, the level of their knowledge can be described as good.
