Sorghum bicolor is and has been mainly used as feed and food. Only a small proportion of world production is thereby produced in Europe. The United States participates in most of the total quantity produced by sorghum. In times of reforming energy and fuel supply systems, the plant Sorghum bicolor which was held in the biomass production to date only sparse input was put in this case closer to the spotlight of the production of renewable resources. An important parameter for practicing biomass producers and operators of biogas plants is the building of biomass within one vegetation period. Here were examined using experiments with different varieties of sorghum at different locations for showing the impact of sorghum varietie an location. Scenarios for shorter growing seasons in terms of intercropping and for changed climatic conditions, biomasse growth analysis were performed using the program DAISY. The results will be used to evaluate sorghum bicolor as a cover crop and represent the suitability as raw material for biogas use.
