Abstract Ten hemp cultivars have been tested in a one year field trial, assessing yield of fibres, hurds and seeds on tree sites in Hanfthal and the research farm in Groß Enzersdorf/Raasdorf. On the third trial location (Obersiebenbrunn) two varieties of hemp (USO 31, Futura 75) were examined. All of these cultivars have been sown in a randomised plot and in different seed rates. This investigation was made to provide results on the yield performance and crop and grow development of all tested cultivars. Furthermore, the aim in this project was to compare the tree trial locations in a pannonian area production. The analyses of the results of a comparison of all cultivated hemp sorts at the two locations (Hanfthal, Groß Enzersdorf) showed a significant difference in the seed, fibre and hurd yields. In Obersiebenbrunn no significant differences in fibres and hurds was proven. Significant higher fibre yields for the ten hemp sorts were measured at a higher sowing density at the location Hanfthal. However, there was also a significant difference performed of the ten cultivars in the location Groß Enzersdorf at a low seeding rate.
