This thesis is about the topic „Integrated energetic and substantial usage of by-products in the wood industrial value chain across locations”. The company Franz Kirnbauer KG which is located in the southern Lower Austria is forced, due to the current sales market situation of sawmill by-products, to pursue an improvement of the incidental coproducts, which are a result of the sawmill and further processing procedure. For this reason it was considered to ensure the entire manufacture inside the company with the installation of a cogeneration and a subsequent pelletizing. Initially the possibility of the establishment at the two existing sites of the firm was evaluated. Due to negative general conditions the project implementation at the production site Prigglitz was judged to be not economical and therefore the alternative Ternitz was selected. After this step the economic calculations could be started. The project concept included three scenarios, which have undergone both a technical (feasibility) and an economic consideration (static and dynamic investment appraisal). The aim was to calculate possible developments at the market and subsequently to subject the alternatives to an evaluation and comparison to ultimately recommend the optimal scenario.
