Abstract:
In this Master’s thesis the influence of land reclamation on mountain pasture in the area of the “Schneealm”, especially in the so called “Nolltal”, was investigated. Thereby, selected parameters like soil characteristics, the plant population and its composition and the fodder’s quality were reviewed. Furthermore, the alp management and its profitableness and the environmental compatibility of the animal husbandry were also analyzed. Concerning the soil characteristics, it can be said, that the land reclamation has a positive influence on the investigated parameters. An improvement of the soil characteristics occurs some years after the recultivation was done. The reclamation’s influence on the plant population and the biodiversity was discovered in this Master’s thesis. The biodiversity increased, although the number of pastures will be decreasing and the amount of herbage will be increasing over the years. An influence on the speciation’s composition was also detected. There was also found an influence on the fodder’s quality. This is shown by the comparison of the recultivated area in the “Nolltal” and the non-recultivated areas in the region of the “Almboden”. Especially the used seed has an effect on the fodder’s quality. The reclamation has also a positive economic effect on the pasture’s yield because of the pasture’s saving on the farms in the valley and the increasing number of the animal units on the pasture during the summer period. The results of the environmental review show that there isn’t any nitrogen pollution of the ground water because of the amount of the animal units on the mountain pasture. On the basis of the balance sheets it could be said that in the investigated area of the mountain pasture on the so called “Schneealm” there is a permanent undersupply concerning the pasture’s nitrogen supply.
