A new cutting process of logs requires that the resulting timber is glued together in wet state to form wood cross-sections in the size of the structural component. However, the technology of wet bonding is currently not reliable enough for a technical approval and the manufacturers adhesive system requires to dry the surface of the wood. The possibility of a surface-near drying of timber at high air velocity and elevated temperature in a short period of a few minutes was considered as working hypothesis in the present work. The aim of the study was to determine the extent of the drying of the wood in a laboratory scale, to determine the depth of drying into the wood interior at certain drying times and drying temperatures and to depict it in a diagram or model. A model could be developed with a corresponding experimental set-up. The required time for reliable drying of the wood surface is used as a function of the selected drying temperature at a defined air speed and different starting humidities.
