Abstract:
A field experiment was carried out with three soybean varieties, two seeding rates and an organic and conventional cropping system in a northern region of Germany, Sachsen-Anhalt, where soybeans are not established yet. A spring wheat was also grown for comparison. In the year 2016, field trials were carried out on a farm estate in Möckern. Results show that soybeans can be grown in this region and soybean varieties of the maturity group 00 (like ES Mentor) can be used. The variety Amandine (maturity group 000) had a lower grain yield. The cultivation of the 0000-group variety Annushka is not reasonable because obviously the yield potential of the region is not utilized. A seeding rate of 60 grains m-2 was adequate, as no yield advantage could be realized with the higher sowing rate of 90 grains m-2. The nitrogen yield among the varities was highest for ES Mentor (maturity group 00). We also found that a spring wheat, that was seeded at the same date as soybeans, could not attain the soybean nitrogen yield. The organic cropping system led to a substantial problem with weeds. So for organic cultivation of soybean, an appropriate weed management system has to be implemented.
