In a knowledge-based society, the focused and target-oriented transfer of knowledge is of great importance. Using the example of the lecture Wood technology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU), options for further development will be shown on a conceptual scale. For that purpose, thematic and curricular interactions of the lecture Wood technology in the Bachelor programme Wood and Fibre Technology at BOKU are examined. Descriptions of the compulsory courses of the bachelor program as well as compulsory and elective courses of the subsequent master program in wood technology and management will be analyzed for thematic links to the course content of the lecture. This is divided into: processing, drying, modification, glueing, shaping and forming, coating, standards and technology assessment and -development. The proposed division of the contents, based on DIN 8580 manufacturing processes, shows an alternative to the common value added chain based taxonomy. Comparable wood-specific curricula at universities and technical colleges in German-speaking countries are investigated. Finding courses that cover one of the main chapters (glueing, drying, modification, coating) is the goal. The quantity of specialist literature recommended there is evaluated and presented. This approach can be used as a model for other courses.
