Large amounts of used textiles are sorted out by the textile industry every year as waste, only a certain percentage is currently recycled or reused. Within the scope of this thesis, the processability of used textiles consisting of cotton and mixed fabric (50% cotton, 50% polyester) into fiberboard materials and paper handsheets was determined. After disintegration of the fibers, hardboards were produced in a wet process, then also ultra-light-density fiberboards (insulation boards) processed dry, as well as „handsheets paper“made from 100% cotton terry towel. To investigate the influence of used textile fibers on the mechanical properties, panels were made from 100% used textile fibers, as well as from different mixtures of textile and wood fibers. The results showed that selected mechanical parameters have declined with increasing textile fiber amounts, however, other properties improved, such as the heat conductivity. In addition, mechanical properties could be noticeably enhanced through extended wet fiber grinding. The experiments showed also an impeccable processability of cotton fibers from used textiles into paper, which reached satisfying values with regard to rupture strength. Generally speaking, fibers from used textiles have shown potential as a raw material for the production of fibreboards, insulation panels, and paper.
