Although swine und biogas slurry are initially a good fertilizer for the soils and the farming, overfertilisation leads to enormous environmental damage - e.g. eutrophication for the aquatic environment or threat for the groundwater. Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) - a process for coalification with nutritional supplement of carbon and phosphor in the product - can be a solution for these problems, because the carbonization transfers biomass into a stable product, the hydrochar, and can prevent the washing of nutrients to the aquatic medium. To gain the HTC - process temperature (200°C, 240°C) and duration (30 min, 60 min, 360 min) were analysed. Biogas and swine slurry are the feeds. To examine the characteristic as a possible additonal substance to the process, struvite was also carbonized. Higher temperature and longer duration decreased the char mass and solid recovery, the hydrochar dissolved in the process water increased. Although the carbon and nitrogen recovery as well as the H/C- and O/C- ratio was increased through higher temperature and longer duration. The phosphorus recovery was reduced through higher temperature and longer duration. Depending on the properties of the hydrochar, the sizes of the parameters vary.
