- Abstract:
- This master thesis analyses soil carbon system input and output flows of agricultural soils in the Austrian Chernozem region by means of a substance flow analysis. The temporal view is limited to the years 2017, 2010, 1999 and 1990. This should lead to insights of the quantity of organic primary substance flows and therefore prevalent agricultural practices over an extended time period.
The working tool for this question is a literature review as well as data from field experiments and statistics but also expert information was included.
As result the flow analysis represents a maximum input in 2017 and shows a steady decline until 1990. There is a clear peak input of carbon in harvest residues, whereas the least input is represented through sewage sludge and compost treatment as well as biogas production.
The output was dominated through soil respiration which exceeds the output flows of erosion many times.
The balance of input and output flows is considered under different scenarios. These are also related to agricultural management measures.
Finally, a comparison with soil monitoring data from the AGES is made in order to show the comparability of the generated data with actual conditions.
