Abstract:
The issue of climate change will be of increasing importance for the Austrian population during the next years. Not only the temperature level is changing by more than 2°C, the occurrence of extreme weather events will also increase. Agriculture is one of the sectors most affected by climate change. Within the scope of the present work the vineyard Weinviertel, located in eastern Lower Austria, is being analyzed with regard to these aspects. The aim of this work is to establish a current climate characteristic of the Weinviertel and to show all climate changes in this area within the period from 1980 to 2015. For this, the climatic data of two selected weather stations were statistically evaluated and illustrated in graphics. In detail the climate parameters air temperature, precipitation, global radiation, humidity, evapotranspiration, climatic water balance as well as the duration of the vegetation period were analyzed. In addition, the Huglin index was calculated for the selected locations. On the basis of the results, the author would like to discuss the effects of climate change on agriculture, in particular on viticulture. Adaptation measures to climate change are also to be proposed as a result. In the course of the investigation, the temperature, global radiation, number of vegetation days and the Huglin index have changed significantly during the period from 1980 to 2015 in the Weinviertel.
