Abstract:
This master thesis was included in a long time project of the company Stora Enso in Brand (Lower Austria), which is developing a new solid wood product. The aim of this work was to develop a suitable test method for wet – glued timber beams for an internal quality control. The internal quality control is necessary, to identify batch faults premature which are otherwise determined at the endcontrol. The test method should be easy to handle and a quick assembly should be possible. The result of this test, needs to be in a good correlation with the end test (Delamination - ÖNORM EN 14080). The new beam has a special geometry (trapezoid) of the lamella and the freshly sawn lamella are wet glued. With a literature research about possible testing- methods, two treatments were chosen and tested on the samples. After an orientating pretest in the laboratory, a test setup was realized and the samples, which were produced in a pilot facility from the company Stora Enso, could be tested. For the main test the double shear test was chosen. For this method, in one test cycle two glue joints were tested. Other than that mentioned a few other tests were executed. There was the wedge splitting test, the lignin – analysis and the microscopy of the glue joint. For the wedge splitting test, a wedge was produced and the samples were carved at the glue joint. The carving was necessary, to get a better splitting effect. The lignin – analysis shows a reliable differentiation between wood and adhesive fracture. Another optical result was the fracture pattern after the strain. The fracture pattern also shows a conclusion of the production of the samples. The result of this master thesis was a value, which shows that the beam could stand the delamination test or not. Because of this in – process inspection, production failures can be shown earlier and can save money.
