In view of the climate change commitments and the desire of a large number of people to an environmentally compliant and resource saving society change, there is a raising global interest in producing environmentally friendly products from renewable resources. In the field of building restoration bio-based insulation materials as an alternative to synthetic petroleum-based insulation materials are gaining crucial relevance. Therefore, the role of research is not only to develop innovative materials, but also to add ideas of how renewa-ble raw materials can be used even more extensively to reduce waste flows. This approach involves the reuse of potential waste products. Coffee silverskins, the tegument of the cof-fee beans within the coffee cherry, can be considered as such. This seed coat, which consti-tutes a byproduct of the coffee roasting procedure, is still underutilized for valuable appli-cations but is currently disposed as a solid waste most of the time. Based on coffee silver-skins, solid foams were created by foaming and adding additives and their suitability for an application as an insulation material was examined. By determining density, compression strength and thermal conductivity the manufactured foams were characterized. The pro-duced foams deviate in terms of type and quantity of the subjoined additives and exhibit density values of 28 - 213 kg/m3, compression strength values of 7 - 17 kPa and thermal conductivity values of 0.038 - 0.045 W/(m*K). This study shows the feasibility of creating biobased foams on the basis of coffee silverskins, which demonstrate insulation material properties.
