- Abstract:
- The education at an university is only one part of lifelong learning.
Beside the spezialized and technical training studies contribute to the
formation of personality and character. Especially the ability to
independent and critical thinking is supported during the studies.
The subject matter of the present work is the course of studies at the
University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna
for the period from 1981 to 2000. The results of the examinations give a
general idea of the development of the number of enrolments at the BOKU,
further the choice of studies and the duration of the studies. The dropouts
and the PhD study program are discussed as well.
Starting studies the further circumstances concerning the studies are
considerably unknown. A lot of questions arise amongst the students. How
long will the studies really take? Which obstacles have to be overcome?
The present work gives some answers to these questions and is a starting
attempt to describe and analyze the actual progress of studies at the BOKU.
The results of the examinations could be used in future to describe,
criticize and classify the university reform, the perpetual changes in
the plans of studies and their effects on the course of studies at the
