- Abstract:
- High quality inlays have been used for centuries as a decoration of furniture. Over the past years demand has increased for door panels with inlays for private and industrial interior decoration.
In this work the technical alternatives for the production of inlays on an industrial scale are investigated. The different technologies are discussed concerning their applicability in principle, usefulness, efficiency and compliance with specific qualitative requirements. The differences in manufacturing and thus arising implications on the operational structure of the production process are shown.
On the basis of specific assumptions with regard to operational circumstances and quality requirements of the inlays the different technologies are assessed and a concept of an industrial inlay manufacture is suggested and discussed. It shows that given a certain annual production quantity a combination of waterjet cutting technology and cutting with oscillating knife is the ideal way to perfectly meet the requirements concerning efficiency, flexibility and precision.
This work shall enable executives in the industriy to make sound investment decisions based on their individual operational circumstances and priorities.
