- Permaculture is an integrative planning method, which can contribute much to a sustainable way of living. This paper presents and comments the permaculture certificate course, which was given by the Permaculture Academy Austria between October 2006 and March 2007. Starting with an introduction to the permaculture principles and the training courses as defined by Bill Mollison, the father of permaculture, the Permaculture Association Austria and its training organisation the Permaculture Academy Austria are presented. The main part of this paper is dedicated to the structure and goals of the permaculture certificate course and its five modules. These modules are: Introduction to permaculture, cycles of nutrients and self-sufficiency Building and Living, Permaculture-cooperation's in towns and villages, Permaculture-agriculture. The final chapters include a presentation of the project done by the author as part of the course, a summary of the impressions the participants of the course had and some suggestions for improvement of the course. A list of recommended literature is included for every topic of the course, which will make it easy for persons, who are interested in these topics to deepen their knowledge.
