Abstract:
The growth of Millet (Panicum milliaceum) variety K (Kornberger) and Sorghum (sorghum bicolor variety R (Rosus) was examined at 5 levels of water stress. Hence, 70 plants were divided into 2 groups in 5 rows with (2x 7) repetitions. The stress was varied by 5, 15, 33, 37 and 87 stress minutes, not supplied with cultural solution. The effects of the treatment appear special with the root growth with 5 and 15 stress minutes and relation between root and shoot growth. In comparison between from 5 and 15 stress minutes and with 87 stress minutes one finds the following results: Root length with 5 stress minutes with kind K about 41.58% and with kind R about 19.02% Shoot length with 5 stress minutes with kind K about 59.41% and with kind R about 25.05% Root length with 15 stress minutes with kind K about 22.84% and with kind R about 52.06% Shoot length with 15 stress minutes with kind K about 17.07% and with kind R about 34.16% Root length with 87 stress minutes with kind K about 10.63% and with kind R about 12.59% Shoot length with 87 stress minutes with kind K about 10.47% and with kind R about 13.99% The attempt has shown that with sorghum a lengthening of the water stress more than 5 minutes causes no stimulation of the root growth. Millet shows a lengthening of the Roots with widening the stress up to 15 minutes.
